Chigwaja Follow-Up Donation & Breast Cancer Awareness Workshop
After our initial visits to Chigwaja in response to Cyclone Freddy, The Makazi Foundation returned to the community once more—this time with a deeper focus on health education, women's dignity, and long-term development. Through the generous support of donors and in partnership with Breast Cancer Foundation Malawi, we continued our commitment to restore hope and build resilience in Chigwaja.
About the project
A Renewed Call to Action
Recognizing the ongoing needs within the community, The Makazi Foundation launched another donation drive. Thanks to the contributions of kind-hearted well-wishers, we collected:
Four bags and two cartons of clothing for families in need
100 reusable sanitary pads to promote menstrual health and dignity for women and girls
Breast Cancer Awareness and Health Education
Chigwaja, Blantyre
In collaboration with Breast Cancer Foundation Malawi, we distributed breast cancer awareness posters and engaged the women and girls of Chigwaja in open conversations about early detection, breast health, and the importance of regular screenings.
By combining relief with education, we ensured that our visit empowered the community with life-saving knowledge while also addressing their immediate material needs.
Listening to the Community: Groundwork for Sustainable Development
During our visit, we also facilitated a community dialogue focused on the future. In a thoughtful and participatory session, we asked local residents to share insights on areas they believe need improvement to achieve long-term sustainability.
This conversation, documented in a bilingual report (English and Chichewa), identified three critical areas of focus:
Community Development
Education
Health Services
The report has been officially shared with the Group Village Head of Chigwaja and The Makazi Foundation’s Executive Director to guide future programming and partnerships.
Our Commitment Moving Forward
This visit marked a turning point from emergency relief to community-led recovery. By combining donations with education and participatory planning, we continue to build trust and invest in Chigwaja’s long-term growth.
We extend our deepest thanks to every person who donated, shared our campaign, or partnered with us on this mission. Your support is helping to transform a crisis into an opportunity for resilience and empowerment.
