International Youth Day 2023
In celebration of International Youth Day 2023 and this year’s global theme, “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”, The Makazi Foundation, in partnership with Cocoon Arts, took meaningful action toward environmental sustainability by donating 10 recycling bins to Mount View International School and conducting educational assemblies focused on environmental awareness.
About the project
Starting point
Recycling is more than a household habit; it’s a powerful green skill that plays a key role in protecting our environment. By reducing the demand for raw materials, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and minimizing waste in landfills, recycling equips communities to fight climate change and build a greener future.
This project was designed to introduce children to the importance of sustainable living from an early age, nurturing a mindset that values environmental responsibility.
Support from local communities
We’re proud to highlight two impactful moments from this initiative:
On Monday, 14th August 2023, we donated 10 recycling bins to Mount View International Primary School—a step toward institutionalizing environmental responsibility within the school community.
On Friday, 22nd September 2023, we conducted two engaging assemblies for learners aged 4–8 and 9–11, introducing them to the basics of recycling, environmental conservation, and how their daily actions impact the planet.
The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by the students, teachers, and school leadership was incredibly encouraging. Their participation confirmed that fostering green skills at a young age is not only possible—it’s essential.
Green Skills For Youth: Towards A Sustainable World
The Makazi Foundation remains committed to empowering the next generation with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to become stewards of sustainability. Small steps, like learning how to sort waste, can lead to big changes when nurtured over time.
A heartfelt thank you to Cocoon Arts, the Mount View school staff, and every child who showed up with excitement and openness to learn. Together, we’re building a world where environmental responsibility begins in childhood and extends far into the future.
Looking Ahead
